About Pet Connection Grain Free Senior Dog Food - Trout & Salmon

Comprising a selection of the finest freshly prepared ingredients from nutritious and highly digestible animal protein sources, Pet Connection's Grain Free Senior Dog Food with Trout, Salmon, Sweet Potato & Asparagus is ideal for adult dogs of all sizes, with a crunchy kibble texture and an optimal kibble size and shape for adult dogs to savour.

Perfect for older dogs and those who struggle to maintain an ideal weight, the diet encompasses a complete joint support pack containing Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM to support healthy joints. A lower metabolisable energy per 100g of 340kcal helps to keep your pet feeling full while maintaining a calorie reduced diet. If your pet struggles to lose weight, we recommend feeding a mixture of good quality dry food with a high quality wet food such as Forthglade Chicken Trays, as wet food tends to have a lower kcal/100g value, helping your pet to feel full after mealtimes while contributing to a healthy figure.

The veterinary approved formula is natural, complete and balanced, ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs and those requiring a hypoallergenic diet.

Formulated with sweet potato, a complex carbohydrate rich in B vitamins, and potato, rather than the grains typically found in dog foods, the food is perfect for dogs who suffer from sensitivities or allergies to grains such as wheat.

Each 12kg bag contains 8.5kg of fish, meaning that the percentage of animal protein relative to the total protein contained is 68%.

Responsibly sourced and highly digestible, Trout is the key protein source contained within the food, ensuring a reliable source of essential fatty acids. Asparagus is included due to its rich vitamin A, C and K content, and as it contains folic acid which contributes to general health and well being. Omega 3 is added to boost cognitive and visual development as an excellent source of EPA and DHA. The provitamin L-Carnitine is added to promote oxidation of fat for energy.

Symptoms of food allergies and intolerances in dogs can encompass anything from chronic ear infections, gastrointestinal issues and chronic diarrhoea to constant licking of the feet, tear stains, chronic gas and itching. Acute symptoms should always be seen by a veterinary professional to ensure they can be treated appropriately. Some vets will recommend allergy testing, others will recommend an exclusion diet, during which the dog should be trialled on multiple different diets, including wheat gluten free, grain free, chicken free, etc. in an attempt to discover the trigger. While medication may be administered to treat the symptoms of an allergy, it is important to discover the root cause to prevent ongoing suffering caused by exposure to the allergen.

Extremely palatable due to the high meat content, this food is often used as low to medium value training treats by owners keen to improve the behaviour of their dogs. The kibble size is ideal for use in treat dispensing toys such as Trixie Dog Activity Snack Balls. For dogs with sensitivities, intolerances and allergies, it is important to ensure that any treats used do not contain the trigger food. Ideal treats for these dogs may include natural chews from the Anco Naturals range, such as those containing novel proteins like Dried Sprats and Hairy Deer Ears, and smaller high value training treats such as Pet Munchies Sushi Training Treats.
