WORMS
Worm infestations are common, yet can cause extremely serious conditions to dogs and their owners. Find out more about how you can prevent infestations from taking hold inside your dog!
FLEAS & TICKS
Prevent infestations in your home by protecting your pets from fleas, lice, mites and other biting insects! Has an infestation already taken hold? Read our guide for getting rid of pesky insects as quickly as possible.
CRATE TRAINING
Puppies and adult dogs have a natural liking for enclosed sleeping places. Their canine ancestors would seek out a safe den to sleep and rest, where they were safe from the elements and predators.
TOILET TRAINING
House training your puppy is about consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. The goal is to instill good habits and build a loving bond with your pet.
TRAINING CLASS
Neil Powell is a world renowned dog trainer who has spent over 30 years training dogs to locate people who have been lost on the mountains, trapped and buried under collapsed structures, and those who have sadly drowned and must be located under the water surface in lakes and rivers. We are very lucky to have Neil's immense training knowledge in the local area, and in recent years he has started to offer training classes in Newry and Annalong, for pet dogs whose owners are experiencing issues, or simply want a well trained family pet.
ARTHRITIS
Symptoms of Canine Arthritis include stiff and sore joints, difficulty standing up or sitting down (particularly in cooler weather), hesitancy to jump, run or climb stairs, decreased activity, behavioural changes, weight gain, favouring a limb, and an increase in time spent resting.
COMMON ALLERGENS
Allergies in dogs can cause a myriad of issues, from external symptoms such as persistent chewing of the feet and tail, to internal problems which present with loose stools. We always recommend an exclusion diet when establishing which allergens are causing problems to your dog, so read our guide for more information.
TEAR STAINS
Tear stains are reddish-brown facial stains, usually around the eyes, on dogs. They are particularly noticeable on some dogs, mainly those with lighter coloured fur.
LOST & STOLEN DOGS
The first 24 hours is a critical time period when it comes to finding your pet. After that, the chance of you finding your dog drops dramatically. It is very important that you spend this important time searching thoroughly for your pet, and following all of the steps outlined.
GROOMING
When grooming your dog, it is important to understand the coat type, to ensure you are using the correct tools and methods to achieve the desired result. See our guides for grooming dogs of all coat types, including Curly coats, Double coats, Silky coats, Smooth coats & Wire coats.
STAYING COOL
Dogs can suffer fatal heatstroke within a very short period of time, potentially within minutes of exposure to extreme heat such as that seen during heatwaves in the UK & Ireland. Unlike humans, dogs can’t sweat through their skin. Instead they rely on panting and releasing heat through their paw pads and nose to regulate their body temperature and keep cool.
FIREWORK FEARS
Fireworks can invoke terror in even the calmest of dogs, cats and small pets, leaving many owners dreading the Autumn months during which neighbourhoods can be filled with loud bangs and bright flashes. Evolution has hard-wired our pets with incredible survival instincts, and loud unexpected noises can easily trigger a fight-or-flight response.
