Peckish No Grow Seed Mix is designed to help gardeners to reduce the chances of dropped seed from germinating, causing weeds. The ingredients of this blend have been though the process of being kibbled or flaked. This process causes damage to the seed to prevent successful germination. Husks have also been removed from the seeds, to reduce the possible mess.
As well as protecting your garden, Peckish No Grow Seed Mix promotes good health in your visiting birds with the inclusion of Calvita Vitamin Mix. Calvita contains a mixture of essential nutrients and vitamins to help birds to stay strong and healthy, including Calcium, Biotin and Vitamin A, D & E, which help to ensure healthy growth, stong bone and beaks and aids with egg production.
This wild bird seed mix can be fed through either a hanging seed feeder, in a ground feeder tray or scattered across a bird table. We recommend positioning bird feeders around 2m from the closest area of safe cover in your garden. This will ensure that visiting birds see the feeder, but also feel safe to stop to eat.
Our top tips for attracting more birds to your garden:
- Replenish feeders early each morning, to ensure that there is a consistent supply of food when birds are looking to replace energy lost through the night.
- If birds are visiting your feeders, continue to provide food throughout the year. When birds consider your garden to be a reliable source of food, they are more likely to make repeat visits. Continuing to feed on a year round basis also helps to cushion the impact of temporary food shortages, which can occur at any time of the year, on your local birds.
- Consider providing clean and fresh drinking water alongside your feeders or bird table. Water can be provided for birds either in a bird bath, or using a specialist Wild Bird Water Drinker, which has a self flushing system to maintain hygiene. Access to clean and safe drinking water can be the difference between life and death for all wildlife, particularly during the Summer and Winter months, when regularly sources of water can suddenly become inaccessible through drying up or freezing over.
- If you are new to feeding the birds, please be aware that it can take some time for birds to start to visit a new feeder - don't give up!
- Help to support the health of your local wild bird population by taking steps to ensure that disease is not transmitted between birds at your feeders. Ensure that all food provided remains dry and fresh, removing any wet food on a daily basis, as wet food can harbour dangerous bacteria. Clean areas such as feeders and bird tables on a regular basis, using a bird friendly cleaning product, such as Johnson's Clean 'n' Safe Bird Disinfectant.
