About The Wild Antler Co Deer Antler Chew
Deer antlers from the Wild Antler Co are guaranteed to be of exceptionally high quality (Grade AA & A), and are a great choice for a 100% natural chew for dogs.
Naturally shed by deer every year due to hormone fluctuations which stimulate the regrowth of new antlers and shedding of the old antlers, the antlers are an annual renewable resource and, as they are responsibly sourced and gathered in the EU, an ethical choice for environmentally conscious owners. As natural products, the shape of the antlers can vary quite dramatically. If you prefer a certain shape of antler, please let us know in Special Instructions box at Checkout and we will do our best to accommodate your choice.
High in natural minerals such as Calcium and Phosphorous, low in fat, hypoallergenic and long lasting, antlers are a very low (practically non-existent) odour chew, and great for improving your dog's dental health and hygiene as they help to clean hard to reach areas of your dog's mouth, scraping plaque from the teeth, as they enthusiastically gnaw on the tasty treat.
Antlers are said to have some other unique benefits including helping to improve circulation and metabolism, reducing cholesterol, strengthening bone structure, muscles and joints, maintaining healthy cells, aiding the immune system and helping to prevent inflammation from arthritic conditions.
Perfect for tough chewers who love wholesome snacks, antlers can be used for dogs at all life stages with two main types available. Half Antler 'Easy Chews' which are cut length ways down the centre to expose the spongy marrow are great for puppies and older dogs, while Whole Antlers are longer lasting and great for adult dogs and tough chewers are they allow limited access to the central marrow. For very senior dogs, very aggressive chewers or those who have previously had issues with cracked teeth due to extreme chewing habits, antlers may not be the most suitable choice and other durable but softer natural treats such as Bull Pizzles may be more appropriate.
To avoid the risk of choking, choose an antler which is too large for your dog to fit in their mouth, which usually means choosing a size larger than you normally would for your dog's size. The size guide below should be used as a guide only, if you're unsure then please contact us or select the larger size for extra safety.
Chewing is a natural behaviour for all canines, and should be channelled appropriately rather than discouraged or punished. Directing your dog towards chewing on natural treats will help to improve oral health by scraping and cleaning the teeth, reducing any build up of tartar or plaque. Allowing your dog to chew on appropriate items will help to relieve boredom and destructive behaviour, and can help nervous dogs or those with separation anxiety.
